Mitsui Advanced Media Announces Development of New CD-R Media

Purchase, NY – June 3, 1998 – Mitsui Advanced Media, Inc. announced today the July 1, 1998 release of their new CD-R. Mitsui Advanced Media, as well as their Japanese parent company, Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., have traditionally shown strength as a research and development force in the CD-R industry, with particular effort towards quality control. It is in this spirit, as well as thousands of hours of research, that the new Mitsui CD-R was developed.

Mitsuis' new CD-R integrates the advanced technologies and superior performance of our past disc, with two new and improved qualities in an effort to keep in step with todays' ever-changing CD-R market. Mitsuis' new CD-R offers the highest reflectivity rate of a CD-R to date, markedly exceeding the Orange Book industry standard. This achievement was made possible by combining our newly developed, silver reflective layer with our existing patented dye materials.

Mitsui is also introducing a new and improved surface called Diamond Coat, designed to protect Mitsui CD-R's from scratches, abrasions, repeated use and bad handling.

New Reflective Layer Combines With Existing Patented Dye For Ultimate CD-R

Mitsui Advanced Media, Inc. has always prided itself on the being able to offer the highest quality CD-R media available in todays market. This is possible due to our companies 80 year history in specialty chemicals. We are therefore able to control nearly all the raw materials used in Mitsui media, as well as having the flexibility to develop new technologies in an effort to keep with this ever-changing market.

Mitsui has optimized its current, patented Phthalocyanine dye, responsible for our dependable, long-term archivability, and combined it with a new, stronger reflective layer which increases the strength and flexibility of CD-R writing and reading. The results are lower jitter levels, a lower BLER rate and high compatibility with all of todays reading and writing drives. Mitsui is certified for all current writing speeds by todays major drive manufacturers.

Mitsui media comes in a variety of recording lengths, as well as a wide range of different surfaces used for printing via ink jet, thermal transfer, water-based marker and paper labels. Complete custom silk-screening is also done in-house. Every Mitsui CD-R comes with a lifetime warranty.

Improved Protective and Printable Surface With "Diamond Coat"

Generally, CD-R media is comprised of four layers; polycarbonate, dye, reflective and lacquer. Mitsui Advanced Media has always offered a fifth layer, Data Shield Surface, to the face of the CD-R, providing additional protection to the data-bearing layer against scratches, abrasions, and basic poor-handling. We have now improved upon this layer with our new "Diamond Coat". Diamond Coat provides our customers with two, improved qualities.

As CD-R becomes a more common, affordable medium to end-user customers, the need for Mitsui to provide additional shelter to their stored data became necessary. The durability of a CD-R is as important a quality as its compatibility and reliability, and Mitsuis' Diamond Coat offers excellent resistance to physical damage.

In addition to continuing to provide added protection, Diamond coat bears an aesthetically new look; a shiny, lacquer finish. This new surface provides enhanced performance with the Rimage thermal transfer printer. Tests revealed that Mitsuis' Diamond Coat rendered among the sharpest results ever, and at a very low strobe setting.
